25 Small Paintings and Four Larger Paintings

On View November 30 - December 22, 2018

offical reception on december 7th, 5-8 p.m.

“For this exhibition, I am showing a selection of twenty-five small paintings and four larger paintings. In general, when I am working on my paintings I like to limit the number of variables I’m working with, part of which has been my recent use of only two sizes of canvas. The larger sized paintings I like to install in a row, and the small paintings in a grid. The line of paintings reads like a sentence with each painting building on the last and leading to the next, while the grid reads in all directions simultaneously. The paintings are held together by the repetition of elements like shapes, colors, or method of painting application. My goal when making a painting is for each one to have its own solution. The result is a group of paintings that are tied together in some ways but are all pushing in different directions. The group creates a context for each individual painting that helps the viewer make sense of it by setting a parallel between what happens in each painting and what is happening in the group as a whole.”
