LaMontagne Gallery is pleased to present the third solo exhibition of Kim Faler, Give Me Your Anxiety:
The exhibition features a suite of paintings on steel accompanied by flocked-iron prints titled Give Me Your Anxiety exploring the mark making that is buried within all of our notes-to-self, to-do lists and haphazard post-it notes. Faler selects fragments of writings collected from friends and family and translates them across the surface of both steel and paper and allows rust to become the focus—making these quick, elusive thoughts more permanent.
Faler also introduces Dolly, a hanging sculpture composed of hundreds of electroplated grape vines that have been adhered to one another with a bubblegum-like substance. Each vine has a distinct metal finish—ranging from copper to chrome to white gold—accentuating the tiny structure’s unique labyrinth-like form.
Both works serve to explore and push the boundaries of a given material. Rust becomes something that is contained and controlled in two-dimensional works, and the discarded grape vine becomes a treasured trophy in the sculpture. Each piece asks the viewer to slow down and to notice the beauty that is found in the mundane details that circle our everyday experience.
Faler’s work has been exhibited internationally and throughout the United States—including exhibitions at the Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art (MASSMoCA), Art Dubai, Sp/Arte in São Paulo, and most recently solo exhibitions at the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, and the Beeler Gallery at the Columbus College of Art and Design in Columbus, Ohio. She has received numerous grants and residencies, including the Joan Mitchell MFA Grant, a US Fulbright Scholarship to Brazil, the Robert Rauschenberg Foundation Residency in Captiva, Florida, and the Artpace International Artist-in-Residence Program in San Antonio, Texas.Kim Faler received her BFA from Ohio Wesleyan University and her MFA from the Cranbrook Academy of Art. She lives and works in North Adams, Massachusetts.
